What You'll Need to Get Started

  • Your chosen nail charms or embellishments
  • Nail glue or a gel base coat (for adhesion)
  • A dotting tool, tweezers, or wax pencil for precise placement
  • A UV/LED lamp (if using gel)
  • A clear top coat to seal everything in

Step 1: Prep and Polish

Start with a clean, shaped nail. Apply your base coat, then your chosen colour. Let it dry fully — or cure under a lamp if you're using gel. A smooth, dry surface is key for charm adhesion.

Step 2: Plan Your Design

Before you start gluing, lay your charms out on a flat surface and plan your placement. Less is often more for a polished look — try one statement charm on an accent nail, or a cluster of micro-pearls along the cuticle line.

Step 3: Apply the Charms

There are two reliable methods:

  • Nail glue: Apply a tiny dot of nail glue to the nail (not the charm), then use tweezers or a wax pencil to press the charm into place. Hold for 10–15 seconds. Best for heavier or 3D charms.
  • Gel method: Apply a thin layer of gel top coat, place your charm while it's still wet, then cure under your lamp. This gives a stronger, longer-lasting hold.

Step 4: Seal and Protect

Apply a generous layer of top coat around (not over) raised 3D charms to lock them in without flattening them. For flat embellishments like rhinestones and stickers, you can coat directly over the top.

  • Pearl cuticle line: A row of micro-pearls along the base of the nail for an elegant, editorial look.
  • Single statement bow: One oversized bow charm on a nude or pastel accent nail.
